Living, learning, and parenting today in a technology-rich world is complicated. Using the Eduro Learning Parenting in the Digital Age resources provided in the course enabled us to offer parents the chance to learn in ways they perhaps never have before. As a teacher and technology coach, I am often asked by parents for advice on what to do about children and their digital devices. This course is the resource I’ve always wished I could point parents to. It features a balanced view of technology use at home and gives participants access to videos of real parents talking about real issues they face. My biggest piece of advice to parents in workshops has always been to keep the lines of communication open. The course facilitates this by encouraging parents to take action in the form of conversations with their children. Additionally, this is a great resource for a school to provide its parents. Designing a Parent Learning Program
Supporting your parent community in their understanding of technology-rich learning can be challenging and time consuming. We have designed this course to help you better understand the concerns that parents have about learning in digital spaces and provide you with key resources, strategies and tips to design and develop your own parent learning program to keep all stakeholders in your school community informed and engaged.
How will this facilitated, online course support you and help you to develop a successful support program for parents in your school community?
Designing a Parent Learning Program
Supporting your parent community in their understanding of technology-rich learning can be challenging and time consuming.
This online course will provide you with key resources, strategies and tips to design a parent learning program to keep all stakeholders in your school community informed and engaged.
You will explore six topics (key parent concerns) as well as key resources for that topic. You will be encouraged to consider how you can apply them in your setting.
After completing this introductory module, you will be able to:
- Confidently articulate the purpose of technology rich learning, at a school-wide level; and
- Better understand and address the key concerns that parents have about technology rich learning;
Topics covered in the Designing a Parent Learning Program
After this topic, you will be able to
- help parents understand more about the ways in which their child(ren) is/are learning in class/at home with technology.
- Design an activity to give parents an understanding of the new learning landscape.
After this topic, you will be able to
- Help parents to effectively manage distractions, and find balance, with multiple devices at home;
- Design an activity that helps parents to find and maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle with multiple devices that works for their family.
After this topic, you will be able to
- Help parents understand the importance of building safe, responsible & respectful habits with their child(ren);
- Design an activity to help parents build safe, responsible & respectiful habits with their child(ren).
After this topic, you will be able to
- help and support parents to have authentic conversations with their child(ren) so that they can understand the how, what and why they’re connecting and sharing through social media platforms.
- Design an activity to give parents an understanding of social media platforms and ways to have authentic conversations with their child(ren).
After this topic, you will be able to
- Help parents understand that we talk to our children about how easy it is for media, in particular images, to be altered, enhanced and/or improved to create something that is far from realistic;
- Design an activity that helps parents to have a conversation with their child(ren) about what they see online.
After this topic, you will be able to
- Help parents understand the skills being developed by their child(ren) in creative digital spaces;
- Design an activity that will help parents to find out more about what their child(ren) are spending their time online learning.
Now you are ready to design your parent-learning program or plan!

After completing this final module you will be able to:
- Create a customized learning plan for your parent community;
- Use all (or some) of the resources shared in this online course;
- Use our provided planning template or adapt/adjust your own.

No. At this time, we do not offer a For Credit option for the online course Designing a Parent Learning Program.

How many hours per week should this course take to complete?
We estimate approximately 3-5 hours per week will be spent on coursework. The entire course will be facilitated over 8 weeks.

Can I work at my own pace?
To a certain extent, yes, although our facilitated course option has firm timeframes and deadlines. To gain the most benefit from the community aspect of a facilitated course you should aim to complete each module within its week timeframe.
If you would like to work at your own pace outside of the timeframes and deadlines for this facilitated course, you might consider purchasing our Self-Paced Option which is available outside of the facilitated online course dates.
What happens if I’m not finished?
If you have not completed all of your course work by 1 December, 2019 you may continue at your own pace. However, you may receive little to no facilitator or fellow participant response beyond the course end date (1 December 2019) for any work you complete or add to the forums.
Being educators ourselves we understand and appreciate that sometimes our learning can be interupted by circumstances beyond our control. We may have a small window of flexibility with final course completion BUT it is important that you make contact with your facilitator asap if you are unable to meet the deadlines and timefames of this course otherwise you may not be able to claim your course completion certificate.
All Eduro Learning online courses offer *unlimited access so you will continue to have access to the course material, resources and tasks.
