Coaching: From Theory to Practice
Be exposed to a variety of resources for successful coaching to enable the development and implementation of a successful coaching plan in your school.
If a coaching plan already exists in your school, you will be able to identify areas for growth and develop a plan to help strengthen coaching structure or team areas of weakness.
How will this facilitated, online course support you and help you to develop an action plan for creating a successful coaching program in your school?
Module 1
Investigate how coaches are leaders within their schools and why collaboration so essential for success in instructional coaching.
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Recognise that coaches are leaders through their actions, vision & expertise;
- Understand that coaches work in collaboration with teachers, administrators, parents and board members; and
- Identify a colleague to work with and feel comfortable practicing their coaching skills with.
Module 2
Exploring the ways coaches play an essential role in implementing sustainable, school-wide, instructional change and how they can be instrumental in developing and sustaining school-wide change.
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Identify the ways coaches play an essential role in implementing school-wide change; and
- Use a coaching strategy in a pre-observation meeting with a colleague.
Module 3
There are many styles of coaching from which learning coaches can take inspiration, strategies and ideas. Examine closely those styles and strategies as well as share and reflect on any styles and strategies currently being used.
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Compare and contrast a variety of coaching styles;
- Identify the coaching style that best suits you; and
- Begin to integrate coaching strategies into your coaching style of choice.
Module 4
Explore how coaching involves change in practice which can sometimes lead to conflict.
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Use a variety of strategies to effectively deal with conflict in your coaching role;
- Share and reflect on those strategies within a community of coaches.
Module 5
Explore the understanding that an essential aspect of coaching is developing leadership among colleagues and examine the idea that coaches should empower others to become leaders within their department/grade level.
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Identify ways to empower others to become leaders; and
- Demonstrate professional knowledge, skils and dispositions in content, and pedagogical areas showing professional growth that inspires and promotes transformational change.
Module 6
Delve deeper into the idea that you can bring a successful coaching model to your school that is beneficial for all.
After completing this module you will be able to:
- Explain the elements of a successful coaching model; and
- Design, develop and implement a coaching implementation plan that fits your school’s needs.

How many hours per week should this course take to complete?
We estimate approximately 3-5 hours per week will be spent on coursework. The entire course will be facilitated over 8 weeks.
Can I work at my own pace?
To a certain extent, yes, although our facilitated course option has firm timeframes and deadlines. To gain the most benefit from the community aspect of a facilitated course you should aim to complete each module within its week timeframe.
If you would like to work at your own pace outside of the timeframes and deadlines for this facilitated course, you might consider purchasing our Self-Paced Option which is available outside of the facilitated online course dates.
How do I connect with other participants?
Each online course has it's own private community forum to connect with other partipants in the course. View our online course confidentiality policy.
We also encourage you to connect with us and fellow partipants outside the course through various social media channels (optional).
What happens if I’m not finished?
If you have not completed all of your course work by 1 December, 2019 you may continue at your own pace. However, you may receive little to no facilitator or fellow participant response beyond the course end date (1 December 2019) for any work you complete or add to the forums.
Being educators ourselves we understand and appreciate that sometimes our learning can be interupted by circumstances beyond our control. We may have a small window of flexibility with final course completion BUT it is important that you make contact with your facilitator asap if you are unable to meet the deadlines and timefames of this course otherwise you may not be able to claim your course completion certificate.
All Eduro Learning online courses offer *unlimited access so you will continue to have access to the course material, resources and tasks.
